About Us

I fell in love with gelato while visiting family in Europe many years ago. "I LOVE ice cream, and on many warm summer nights, we would take our three kids and raid the local creamery!" However, I missed the smooth, creamy, intensely flavoured gelato I had when I was in Europe. So what did I do?

I started experimenting with some recipes at home. Eventually I studied the craft of making gelato in New York from a gelato Maestro. Thus, Dolcella Gelato was born!

At Dolcella Gelato, we aspire to produce our gelato using the same philosophy of the traditional Italian Gelateria that is made in small batches by hand, using only the highest quality ingredients, and seasonal, local fruits whenever possible. This produces a rich, dense and flavourful gelato. Super creamy, smooth and delicious.

We serve our gelato out of a 1965 DIVCO milk truck as a tribute to my late father's love for classic cars. You can also find our products at our "test kitchen" in Barrie, and at the Barrie Farmer's Market every Saturday morning. You will be able to find the truck every Wednesday evening at Heritage Park at the waterfront with the Barrie Thunder Classics, every Thursday at Barrie Garden Centre on Bayview Drive. Look for our truck during the summer months at various events throughout Barrie and the GTA.

Who knew that one trip to Europe those many years ago would lead to gelato becoming a large part of my life!
